Well, after a very long day of travel, including delays due to bad weather and bad weather radars, I finally made it to beautiful Del Mar. The weather here is perfect...blue skies, a cool breeze and the warm sun shining down. The palm trees made me smile, too, since I never see those in New York.
I headed right over to the Aflac Iron Girl expo where I met with Cindy. She will be running the 5k tomorrow and has a great story. You'll have to check out the webisode next week to be inspired by her.

After the expo, we came back to the hotel to get a little workout in. My plan was to do an hour on the stationary bike in the fitness room, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans...
First, I couldn't find my Garmin and had a major freak-out that included calling my poor husband three times to have him look for it at home. I remembered putting it in my suitcase, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I took everything out of my suitcase (which I carried on, if you were wondering) and my backpack...twice. It was nowhere to be found. I decided to try not to think about it too much.
Second, I got to the hotel fitness room, and there was exactly one stationary bike, and it was a recumbent bike. Seriously, I might as well just lie down and take a nap. So I opted instead for a 45 minute endurance run on the treadmill. It pretty much sucked because it was like 9:30 p.m. my time, and I hadn't really eaten anything substantial since about 11:00. Let's just say I learned my lesson.
Tomorrow I'm heading out to the beach for a 90 minute run, and the good news is my Garmin will be joining me! After I got back to my room from dinner (amazing Mexican), I moved my toiletries bag, and, bingo, the Garmin was velcroed to the velcro closure of the bag. What a relief!!
I'll be up before dawn to head over to the event, and I can't wait! The morning will be electric as I watch over 3,000 women run tomorrow! Stay tuned for my webisode, and in the meantime enjoy this view...
