A Midsummer's Evening

It rained all day today until around 4:00 when the sky began to clear and the puddles started to dry up. Kel was home, so we checked the radar to confirm all was clear and headed up to Rudy's, an old-fashioned fish stand that sits right on the shore of Lake Ontario. The food is definitely not the best I've ever had, both in the taste and nutrition department, but the boys (all of them) love it because of the rocky beach where there are big smooth stones just waiting to be thrown into the lake that seems like an ocean.

Last time we went, it was windy and cold (in June!), but tonight it was perfect. We begin with some ceremonial rock throwing. Then we have an incredibly healthy dinner. Tonight I ordered some fried zucchini strips in the hopes we would at least have a veggie to no avail. I was the only person who ate them. Ryan said they tasted like burnt rocks, and Kel concurred. Then more rock throwing (really, they could do this for hours) with only one person being hit by an errant throw--thankfully it was Kel, and not some stranger. Then a short walk down the road to Bev's Ice Cream Stand to finish off a summer night the way it should be finished.

(Kel is a master stone-skipper, but these rocks are kind of big to skip. He usually manages to find a few that are really good. Tonight, he skipped one at least 14 times. Then, later, another man was showing his son how to do it, and Kel had to find just one more to prove his superior stone-skipping skills. I found it to be hilarious.)

Working it out

This post is just me working out my bad mood. I'm not absolutely sure why I'm in a bad mood....maybe I'll figure it out.

  1. I have been eating terribly this week. It seems like eating badly and a light training schedule go hand in hand for me...which is exactly opposite what it should be. Today I was really good up until I ate two donuts!! (There is a grocery store near me that I hardly ever go to, but they have the most amazing donuts that I discovered when I was pregnant with Noah. Every now and then I start thinking about those donuts and just can't stop until I have one...or two.) Where is my willpower?
  2. Hmmm...willpower must be out and about with my temper today. I can't seem to find either of them.
  3. My husband, whom I love dearly, always starts cleaning the kitchen and putting things away right when I am getting ready to serve dinner. This drives me crazy. Either he is in my way, or he puts something away that I just got out, or he could be doing something that needs to be done right then, like get the kids milk poured or put out silverware or get the boys up to the table. Just leave it for after dinner.
  4. What bugs me even more is that he knows this drives me crazy, yet he still does it.
  5. I have been spending way too much time on the computer. I should probably do something like clean my house instead. Maybe I would be in a better mood if my house were cleaner.
  6. Sometimes I look at other families and wonder how they can seem so perfect all the time. I feel like we are always just hanging on to the threads of reality at our house. Do other mothers really feel totally in love with their children every hour of the day?
  7. I love So You Think You Can Dance...I've been looking forward to it all day...and feeling incredibly silly that I've been looking forward to it all day.
  8. I'm very tired, so why don't I just go to bed?
  9. I just told Kel I could see his abs (they look really good). He said, "my fat abs" which made me roll my eyes and feel insanely jealous that I can't see my abs YET, and very mad that I ate two donuts today.

So I think it all comes down to eating badly while on the computer in a messy house with crazy kids and a husband that is too fantastic for his own good.

Irongirl Syracuse Race Report

So, exactly one week after Musselman, Irongirl reared her gorgeous head and pushed me to go faster!!

The festivities began on Saturday, the day before the race, with packet pick-up and bike check in. I was a little nervous about leaving Buttercup over night, open to the elements, but as it turned out, it was really nice to not have to deal with loading and unloading the bike first thing in the morning. There was a pre-race meeting, which was mostly just reassuring everyone that they were not going to drown during the swim (I would guess that about 60-70% of the participants were doing their first tri), but I sat and listened anyway, because you just never know. I like to be prepared. There was a nice little expo with several vendors, and I got myself some unmentionables (trust me, they made Kel blush) from whooha gear. Check out their website for some very cute and inspirational t-shirts and more. My plan was to get checked in and then ride for about 20 minutes, but that did not happen. Oh well.

I played with the Syracuse Symphony Saturday night, so after a very late bedtime of 11:30 p.m., I was up a little after 4 a.m.. I picked up my friend, Lisa, and we headed to the race. We were there just after transition opened, and got a great parking space. Got my transition area set up, took some pics, helped someone change a flat tire (good practice, right?), and had a great warm-up swim before the race started.

My goal for this race was to push as hard as I could. I had some fairly loose time goals, but I just wanted to see how fast I could go. I knew I would be a little limited since I was coming off Musselman just a week before, but besides that I was not holding back. I even decided to not wear my Garmin, and just go for it. I ended up not even using a watch since I forgot to start it at the swim start and just took it off in T1.

I was in the third wave, and the start was a running start from the beach. I got right to the front, and just hit. I was able to draft for quite some time, which I find to be particularly hard to do on a regular basis, but I found some feet and was able to stick with them. I sighted well, despite the rising sun right in my eyes until the first turn. I'm pretty sure the swim was short, because no amount of adrenline is going to make me go as fast as they said I went!

I had a great T1, even though my wetsuit didn't come off as nicely as I wanted it to.

The bike course was a fairly easy, 18-mile course, with very few hills. I blew out of transition, but couldn't really get up to speed until about the second mile, since the first mile was on a little access road, that was pretty crowded and not very smooth. Once I was on the road, I hit it and felt like I was moving fast (since I didn't have my Garmin on, I had no idea how fast that was). I was pushing pretty hard and my HR was pretty high. I had no sense of distance or time and when I saw the first distance marker, I was thinking I was about halfway through...nope, just five miles!! So I decided to settle in a little more, and relax into the speed. I got passed by only two people during the entire bike leg, but I passed a lot of women from the waves before me and a few from my wave. One of the people that passed me was an insanely fast women from the wave behind mine on a carbon Cervelo. The other women was in my age group, and we pretty much played leap frog with each other until about the last 2 miles, when she got me on a little hill, and I couldn't hang. I got my feet out of my shoes just great, and into T2 with a big smile.

Bike Time: 54:15 20.6 mph!!!! (my fastest bike split yet!)

T2 went great. In and out, just like it's supposed to be.

T2 Time: 57 sec.

The run was a very flat out and back. The day turned out to be pretty muggy and warm, and as soon as I started the run I knew I would not be running my fastest. My legs felt very heavy, my breathing was labored and my HR was sky high (I just knew). I got passed in the first mile by quite a few women in my age group, but there was just no way I could keep up. I kept moving and a couple of times thought to myself, "Kelly, if you can do 13.1, you can do 3.1!" It just felt very hard. I pushed harder on the last mile to the finish, and was so relieved to be done. My goal for the run time was under 25 minutes, so close but not quite.

This is the best placement percentage-wise I have ever had (even when I placed 3rd in my age group last year, I was not in the top 10%). I was very pleased with my race, and am looking forward to another sprint in September that I will race on more rested legs. Hopefully my run time will improve. Among the top 30 finishers, my run time was the slowest. In fact, my run time was the only one above an 8:00/mile average in that group. I really need to do some speed work.

I will definitely be back to do Irongirl Syracuse next year. It was a great race. I loved racing with just women...it really had a different vibe from other races. I loved seeing so many women finish their first triathlon, and then ask me when there is another one they can do!! I watched the last person finish, she ran hard and crossed the line with a huge smile on her face. Everyone was clapping and cheering. Now, I get emotional when I watch the Ironman Hawaii finish on tv, but to see this woman, pushing herself to her limits, really got me. No matter how fast or slow, a finisher is a triathlete, and I was so lucky to see that on Sunday.

thoughts

My head is still a bit of a jumble when it comes to sorting out how I feel about my race last weekend. I also have a sprint coming up this weekend, and am excited about that as well. I have also been playing with the Syracuse Symphony this week, which adds a whole other level of stress to my head. Here goes:

  • I'm still not sure I know why I enjoy doing triathlons so much. I really think a lot of it is me proving to myself that I am an athlete, and that I can go beyond myself and others in my endeavors. I'm not really sure where this drive comes from. I think a little bit of it comes from my relationship with my mother. She never put a lot of emphasis on accomplishment when we were growing up. She would always say things like, "As long as you try your best, that's what counts." Well, just what is my best? I'm still searching.
  • My friend, Sarah, asked me about how I felt emotionally during the race. My most emotional moment of the day was before the race started when I saw that message at my transition area. It really hit me at that moment just what I was doing, and how much it really did matter to me that people were proud of me for what I did. I wish it doesn't matter, but it does. I want my family to be proud of me. During the race itself, I was really more focused on doing what I was doing. During the last three miles, I don't remember what I was thinking besides the fact that if I stopped it was going to take me longer to finish. When I saw Kel and the boys about a quarter of a mile from the finish, that was the first time during those last few miles I was able to come out of my head and enjoy the moment. I actually remember a couple of times being annoyed at spectators that would say things like, "Pick it up," or, "You're almost there." I wanted to say, "Easy for you to say, you're just standing there." Of course I didn't, but normally I love spectators who shout encouraging words. This surprised me. I did feel a great sense of camaraderie and good will towards all the racers. Even if we didn't exchange words, there was a sense of understanding in each foot fall.
  • On a more practical note, I did not take in any recovery drink after the race. I got caught up in the ending and looking for Kel, and I totally spaced out on that. I heard that some people had recovery drink in their finisher's bottle, but mine just had water. I am usually right on top of this when I am working out, and I do think that hindered my muscle recovery a bit. Next time I will definitely make that a priority.
  • The side of my right foot is sore and has been since Wednesday. I'm hoping it is just a fluke thing, but I am a little worried about it.
  • Tonight on the way to my flute quartet rehearsal, I saw a small blue balloon bouncing along the side of the road. About a mile later, I saw a white one. I wondered where they came from, and why they were on the highway, and for some reason it made me a little sad.
  • Sunday is Irongirl Syracuse. I'm super excited to race my first sprint of the season. I'll keep you posted on that.
  • During the run leg of the race, I got passed by a man who was 75 years old. He looked amazing, and I hope that I am that fit (and that fast) when I am 75!

Musselman Half-Iron Race Report

Well, I am officially half of an ironman. The race went great. Here are more details than you will probably ever want to know, but I really want to remember, so indulge me.

I headed off to Geneva on Saturday around noon to hit packet pick-up and the athlete meeting. I was a little scattered because not only did I have all of my normal race stuff to take care of, I was also the Trakkers representative for the race, and had to hand out units, give directions, etc. for the racers who were testing for Trakkers.

As I was turning into the campus of Hobart & William Smith, I sat a stoplight behind cars with bikes. This is one of my favorite things about a race...getting closer to the race and seeing other crazy people!

I parked the car and headed right to packet pick-up and saw my friend, Andy, who also did his first half-iron at Musselman on Sunday.


I got my bib and goody bag, and then I had to weigh myself...I know. I was the only one taking off my shoes to weigh myself, but, hey, every ounce counts, right? I had to write my weight on the back of my bib, in case of dehydration. My thoughts...what in the world am I doing?

Anyway, got my stuff (awesome goody bag, by the way...cool long-sleeve tech shirt, shampoo and conditioner, some Hammer nutrition products and more), and headed over to the guest house where I would spend the night. It wasn't fancy, but it was free and close by!! I'll take it.

As I was unloading my stuff, I found a little ladybug on my car door. I don't really place much heft on omens, but as they go, this was a good one.

Then I headed out to the race site to scope out transition and get a feel for the lay of the land, so to speak. After that I headed back to my home-away-from-home and took Buttercup out for a quick spin. I felt great, and she was running nice and smooth. Right at the end of my ride, I got a call from Anthony, my mentor on BeginnerTriathlete.com. Since spring, I have been in a mentor group, where we all support each other and lean on each other for advice, motivation and more. I was very lucky that Anthony (who also raced the half on Sunday) and Paula (who came from NC to check things out) were in Geneva, and I got to meet them face to face.

We all headed over to the athlete's meeting which was very entertaining and informative, then to the athlete's dinner...you guessed it, pasta. It was good and free...can't get any better than that. After dinner, I had to take care of a few more Trakkers duties, then I was at the guest house. I tried to chill for a while, but my stomach was a little off, I'm sure from nerves more than anything. I finally hit the hay a little after 10. I slept okay for it being the night before a big race and in an unfamiliar place. I was up around 4:15 a.m., had my breakfast of PB&Honey on whole wheat and a banana, went outside, and was rewarded with this beautiful view.

My good friend, Mark, who also stayed at the guest house, was riding with me to transition, so we got the bikes on the car, took a minute for a pre-race pic, and we were off.

Can you see the fear in our eyes? No, of course you can't, because we had no idea what we were doing!!!

Anyway, we got to transition about 5:30, got a great parking spot, got bodymarked and set up. One of my favorite parts of the day was the little message at my transition area. I got really emotional when I saw it, but it stayed with me throughout the day. I'm still not sure how they got that message, but it seemed like almost everyone had a little something for them. Very nice touch.

I was able to get in the water for about 10 minutes for a nice warm-up, and then I waited on the beach for my wave.

Swim

I was in the third wave of swimmers. The start was actually quite a ways out from shore. Most people walked, but the bottom was very rocky, so I opted to swim even though it was kind of shallow. The horn went off, and I felt great. All of a sudden, the water was very choppy. I've never swam in such wavy water, and it threw me a little. I was a little worried about getting sea-sick, but that never happened. I tried to catch some feet so I could draft, but I am really not very good at that. After a while, I was by myself, which I prefer anyway, and once I rounded the first turn, the waves were easier to navigate. I did okay at sighting, but I did have to correct a couple of times. I'm definitely getting better though. The course was a little weird in that after the second turn you swim into a canal and then turn again, so I couldn't see the end of the swim after the last big buoy. It seemed to go on forever, and the canal wasn't exactly fresh-smelling, but I finished and the person that "helped" me out of the water was this little boy who couldn't have been more than 9 years old. Very cute, but not very strong. Good thing I was steady on my feet.

T1

My first transition went well. I came in with another woman who happened to be right next to me on the bike rack, and left before her. My wetsuit got a little stuck on my timing chip, but I stayed calm and got it off. I did forget my gel flask and remembered about halfway out of the transition area. I decided to leave it since I had enough gels on my bike, and there were gels on the course as well.

Bike

The first 15 miles of the bike were tough. My heart rate was very high, but my speed did not reflect that at all. I think I averaged about 15 mph for the first 15 miles. It was mostly uphill, not steep, just steady, and there was a wicked headwind. About 5 miles out of transition, a guy from the swim wave behind me flew by. He was all decked out in fancy bike, tri suit, aero helmet, the works. When he was about 15 yard ahead of me, all of a sudden he just flew off his bike into the ditch beside the road! It totally freaked me out. I was the first person to pass him. I slowed down and asked if he was okay, and then just kept going. If I had been any closer to him when he fell, I might have lost it too. (Turns out he did finish, with blood running down his face...tough guy!!)

The course finally turned out of the wind, and I was able to make up some time. I got passed by a lot of women in the 40-45 age group, but saw very few if any in my age group. I passed a lot of women in the younger age groups...too bad I had to turn 35 this year! My butt was really hurting until about mile 20, when I seemed to settle in a little better and was able to just ride.

My nutrition went exactly as I had planned. I took a gel at 30 min. and 1 hour, a mini Clif bar at 1.5 hours, and gels at 2, 2.5, and 3. In between the gels and bars I had one or two shot blocks. For hydration I used three aero bottles of NUUN (started with two, picked up two waters on the course), and about a half of water. Towards the end I had to go the bathroom, and was able to let it go while I was riding...yay for the small victories! I made my way into the park, took my feet out of my shoes while on the bike (I've been practicing), and dismounted right at the line.

T2

I got a little flustered in T2. I racked my bike then put on my race belt (?), then shoes. I took time to spray some sunscreen on, but I really should have done that in T1, as the (very slight) damage was already done (I think a lot of it came off with my wetsuit). I grabbed my forgotten gel flask and another pack of shot blocks and was on my way.

T2 Time: 2:11

Run

I started the run, and one of my main goals for the first half of the 13.1 miles was to keep my heartrate in check. This proved to be very difficult. I was surprised at how fast the first mile marker came. My first 2 miles were at the pace I wanted to run, but my heartrate was way too high. I kept telling myself to reign it in, reign it in. I finally switched my Garmin display, so I wouldn't see the pace. The course was harder than I expected it to be. There was one weird spot before mile 3 where you had to run up this very steep grassy hill, or take the stairs through someone's back yard...strange, but very hard. I took the stairs, which I think was a mistake!! There was also another crazy hard hill on a gravel road between miles 7 and 8. I ended up walking quite a bit of that. It just about sucked the life out of me. The second half of the run was so much harder mentally than I expected it to be. I was hurting, and I wanted to be done, but I didn't want to walk because that would mean it would take me longer to finish. During that last 2.5 miles, I really turned inward. Usually I am very friendly and talkative at races, but I couldn't even say thank you at the last few aid stations. I was so happy to see the 12 mile marker...I knew I could do it. I picked up my pace, and then in the distance I saw Kel and the boys cheering me on. My friends, the Holdens, also came out to cheer. I had seen them at the start of the run, but this is where I really needed it. I high-fived everyone and pushed to the finish.

For my run nutrition, I had planned on taking a gel every 45 minutes. When I got running I realized that I was not going to be eating any gels, so I took a shot block every mile through mile 10. Right before mile 10 my legs felt a little crampy and my face was super crusty with salt, so I made the decision to take some Endurolytes at the next aid station, despite the fact that I had not trained with them. I also switched to a few sips of coke which worked perfectly. I had water at every aid station except for one. This plan worked great even though I hadn't really trained it, but I would definitely go this route again.

I crossed the line, was handed my very cool finisher's stainless steel water bottle and finisher's medal, and jumped right into the kiddie pool that was serving as an ice bath. It felt so good! My friend, Andy, had just finished and was just getting out. It took me a while to find Kel and the boys, and I got a little emotional, but I finally found them and just hung out for a bit. They hit the road after a while, and I had a massage and handed out some Aquaphor samples, while I waited for all of the Trakkers testers to finish. This is Mark's friend, Adam. He was very excited to be in the blog. (Adam, I hope this lives up to everything you dreamed of!)

Mark also did great, finishing his first half in under 6 hours!! Nice job, Mark!

So it has been a few days, and I've been able to think about this journey I took this summer. The race itself was much harder, both physically and mentally, than I had anticipated. Although, my race couldn't have gone any better, there are things I would do differently next time in terms of training. I'm glad I did this. I'm very proud to have finished. I would definitely do it again!!
A few people asked me if a full Ironman was next. My honest answer is I'm not sure. This was very difficult. I can't begin to imagine doing double! But as it turns out, I won't even contemplate a full until Noah is in school, so I have a couple of years to think about it!!

The Day Before

It's 7:55 a.m., and I did not sleep well. At one point early this morning, since sleep wasn't coming to me, I mentally practiced my transitions. This activity probably didn't help in the sleep way at all, since my heart rate went up just thinking about it...but at least something was getting done!

I played in the 32X2 concert last night at the Musselfest Arts Triathlon. We premiered 32 new pieces in about 45 minutes. While we played, dancers were dancing, and in the back of the stage artists were creating a huge mural they had been working on since 10 a.m. (my concert was at 6 p.m.). It came off pretty well, I think, given the fact that we (the 5 musicians) rehearsed for the first time from 3:00 to 5:40, directly before the concert. It was really nice for me, because this week would have been a much more difficult week without something like this to take my mind off the race.

So, I woke (and I use that word very lightly, since I wasn't really sleeping) this morning with a growling but nervous stomach. All I have to do before I leave for Geneva at noon, is get my stuff together.

Trakkers at Musselman



The countdown can now be counted in hours, and I would still be able to figure out how many days there are until Musselman. I am feeling nervous, excited, nervous, excited, twingey, excited...

Last night I did two loops of the swim at the Jamesville Beach training tri series. It was about 750-800 yards, I think. It was my best open water swim ever. I felt so calm and was able to get into my smooth rhythm immediately. I was even able to draft, which is a first for me. I really feel like I am peaking at the right moment...I hope it all comes together on Sunday!


I am also playing at the Musselman Arts Triathlon tomorrow night. We are doing 60 new pieces in 60 minutes! It has been really nice to have that to sort of take my mind off the race. So I'm off to Geneva tomorrow for the concert, home tomorrow night, off again Saturday afternoon for the athlete meeting and expo, staying on campus Saturday night, then...

The Sunday Report

So, this week has not been the greatest week ever...really not even close. I've been moody, I haven't been sleeping well, my children have gone wild, my husband has been sick, and I have a race in less than 7 days!!

Really, I think all of it is related to that less than 7 days. I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm a little bit scared, and I can hardly wait to race!! I just want to see how my training will pay off and how it feels to race for the better part of a day!

Anyway, here are the numbers this week. Most of my run workouts felt terrible this week, and I'm trying really hard to not let that get to me. I think it is all just mental at this point.

thoughts


Today was just one of those days. There is no way I can compose a post that is even close to coherent, so I will just give you my thoughts in no particular order.



  • Noah, who will be three next week, has been whining practically nonstop for the past few weeks. My method of dealing with this is to just ignore him which has absolutely no effect on said whining. I do my best to ignore, to tune out, to think happy thoughts, and then, I totally lose it and yell at the top of my voice, " STOP WHINING RIGHT NOW OR YOU ARE GOING TO DRIVE MOMMY CRAZY!!" (as if I'm not already to that point.) Today, Noah actually stopped whining for a little while in the car, and then took his shoe off and threw it at me while I was driving!! Hmmm...I think I'll take the shoe.

  • This morning I noticed that my toilet was in desperate need of cleaning, so I put some Comet in there and went on my way. When I returned later on this afternoon, the toilet was not clean!! What...toilets do not clean themselves???? Then tonight, when I was brushing Noah's teeth, I noticed that the boys' soap bottle had tipped over and leaked all over the counter. This is exactly why I detest cleaning...you just have to keep doing it over and over and over.

  • I'm officially in my taper for my race in a little over a week (9 days to be exact). I have read about tapers being hard, and I didn't really understand why. Now I know...I'm terrified of hurting myself, I'm achy, I'm having (what Ben knowingly informed me are totally normal) phantom pains, I feel like I am not doing enough to prepare for the race...I could go on and on. I get it now.

  • The hardest part about being a mother is wanting so badly to be a good mother because you love your children with every part of your being, yet feeling like you are failing because there are moments you don't even think you can stand to be in the same room as them.

  • Thursday is the day I pick up my CSA share. I have not been eating very good for the past week, and now I am overrun with veggies. What the heck am I going to do with 3 heads of radicchio?

  • Ryan didn't have a very good day at camp today. It seems, from what he told me, that he was not getting along very well with the other kids. He can often be very uncompromising and stubborn when dealing with other kids (and grown-ups, too, for that matter), and I immediately started talking to him about compromise and playing fair. Later on, though, I was thinking about how great every other day this week has been for him, so maybe he was just having a bad day. I have those all the time...I guess he's entitled to one every now and then.

  • I'm amazed at how much joy my children can get from a visit to the John Deere tractors at Home Depot. Sometimes I even bribe them with a visit.

  • I'm so glad that tomorrow is a new day.

Summer Camp

We live near Beaver Lake Nature Center, which is a beautiful little park with hiking paths that surround a little lake. This week Ryan is going to Beaver Lake Summer Camp each morning. We were a little worried about sending him, because he gets a little anxious about things he has not done before, but he is having a ball.

Today, instead of going to the gym and running from there while Noah was in Primetime (childcare), I decided to take the jogging stroller and run with Noah around Beaver Lake after I had dropped off Ryan. I told Noah we would have our own Beaver Lake Camp.

Well, the most amazing thing happened on our run. We had gone about a half mile, and all of a sudden there was a beautiful doe on the trail about 10 yards ahead of us. I stopped and the deer stopped and we just looked at each other. Then I realized that right next to us, not much more than 3 feet away behind a little bush, was her baby deer! I took a few steps up so Noah could see, and they both just stood there and looked at us. The doe finally ran into the woods, but her baby stayed a few moments longer, and stared at us with curiosity. It was really beautiful, and Noah could not stop talking about it. My only regret is that I didn't have a camera to take a picture...but this is a picture I will have in my mind for a long time.

The most not-amazing thing that happened on our run was that I forgot how hard it is to run with a jogging stroller. I haven't done it since last summer, and Noah is 35 lbs of wiggling, almost three-year-old these days. The trails were a bit muddy, and there are quite a few hills. I only managed 3.7 miles in 41 minutes, definitely not my typical pace, BUT I did get a good workout.

I'm feeling very tired, but that could be due to the fact that I went to bed very late after last night's Syracuse Symphony concert. I got called to sub on Friday, and had to go in with no rehearsal. It went really well, but I was wired when I got home and ended up staying up too late. I've opted to go to bed early tonight instead of a 30 minute easy swim at the gym. Of course, I don't feel great about skipping workouts this close to the race, but I am beat!!

Here is my promise to hit the sack before 10 pm tonight!

I feel like my bike numbers are a little low, but I think that is just me second guessing myself with the race right around the corner. My bike hours include one hour per week of spinning, so no miles logged there. I also did a three hour trainer ride this month, so my miles are always lower on the trainer than on the road.
