The Long Run

Another long run is in the logs today. I don't have my splits because I didn't change my Garmin from bike to run, and then I deleted them from my log, but here is how it went down.

The first 6 miles went fine. I'm totally loving listening to my audiobook (The Help by Kathryn Stockett)--it really makes the miles fly by. I was averaging around 9:50 per mile and keeping my HR in Z2. Then my stomach started hurting...again!! Fortunately, I was close to a Dunkin' Donuts, so I was able to make a quick pit stop. The next three miles were uneventful, thank God! The last 3 and change went great. My plan said to run the last 30 min. in Z3, so I picked up the pace and brought my average down to about 9 min. per mile. It felt good to still have some in the tank for the last bit. At the very end, my stomach started hurting again. I had finished my 2 hours, but was still about 5 min. from home, so I just walked it in.

Now, to the stomach. I had water, powerbar electrolyte drink (0 calories), and 2 gels: a Powerbar vanilla at 45 m. and a GU lemon at 90 m. I really don't think it was what I took in on the run though. I think it was my Easter brunch. I thought I had left enough time for it to digest, but now I'm thinking maybe not so much. Next week, my plan is to have a pre-race meal (peanut butter and honey on wheat with a banana) for lunch, and then hope for the best.

I will get this figured out!
